Screamin' Eagle
Nothing but a 5 hour work day to contend with tomorrow, and I use the word "work" lightly. The week has been an absolute grind, and I don't mean in a good way, like on the felt. But working for my Uncle Sam. It's like this "Unc" you've had more than your fair share of me this week. I'm heading out for some R 'n R tonight. You think it'd be a bad thing if I planned ahead for a DD to get me to work in the morning? One plus side to it, you don't have a hangover... of course on the downside, you can't walk a straight line. Then again, how often does that friggin' task come up in the workplace. Okay, okay, I'm only kidding. I'm going to down a few tonight, but I'm not planning on it getting out of hand. To those of you who will be there tonight at the Eagles, you can however expect to see one of those minor skirmishes with the accursed Jack Daniels. Incidentally, I thought the "screamin' eagle" above was apropos! Cut me some slack here people, I've been writing myself silly at work about things I couldn't give a damn about... the cliches are all I got left. The cheer_dad is tapped out. (WTF, did I just refer to myself in the third person?)
So, tonight as I go "out on the town" to "tie one on" forgive me if I say something goofy like "smoke 'em if ya got 'em" or "do you need a nipple for that beer?" Just be sure that you "respect me in the morning" and tell me I "look like hell" or "like somethin' the cat dragged in," but somebody for damn sure better be offerin' me a little of "the hair of the dog that bit me!" It's gonna be one of those nights folks!

Last night at the Wolfe's
Thanks to Frank and Julie for taking on the hosting gig for this month's tournament. It was great to see you all, and hope everyone had a nice time. My tournament life was short lived when I hit a rough patch. The first hand I shoved a chunk of my stack pre-flop with pocket 7's and ran into Frank's rockets. Oops! Then, in an effort to re accumulate some semblance of a stack I had to make some moves that weren't characteristic of my typical game. I even shoved all in with my least favorite hand, in the effort, the ole J-K off! Unfortunately I didn't scare anybody all that much, and picked up two callers. I was in trouble... when I saw Del turn over A-Jos, yeah I'm dominated here. I've only got 3 real outs. So, let's just say I didn't get there. : )
I lost a little more in the cash game too, although I'm not really sure on what. I think it was to the guy who looked a lot like the lead singer of Rascal Flats. (Sorry, I've forgotten your name.) But lucky for me the lovely and talented Big Red had my back for the night. She took down the top spot on the night! She and Vince battled out heads up briefly then finally chopped it, but Teresa will get the top billing for the night in the points race. So, once again, she has to bail me out of my losing ways! : ) Congratulations baby!
I'm pretty sure, Vince took over the points lead last night. I "think" I'm still in 2nd place, but a few others are beginning to get too close for comfort. I guess I better start bringing the A-game. Might help if I wasn't suckin' down more than my fair share of the keg last night, I suppose. But then again... I do love beer.

Happy St. Patrick's Day, to you and yours

Today's a fine day for the wearin' o' the green, don't cha know! And in the spirit of this most festive of holidays here's my most favorite of all Irish blessings:
May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.
Can you be at all surprised that this would be one of our favorite holidays? I mean my last name is Murray, and I married a fiery red-headed lass by the last name of Flanagan. I swear if you cut us we'd likely bleed green, especially today. So raise your glass and join the celebration.
May the luck of the Irish be with you each and every one today, and throughout the year.
As for the weekend that was, it was yet another Poker Palooza. Friday night at the Yanok's was as always a great evening. We stayed for both games on this night. I didn't do so well, but the lovely Big Red held up her end, taking down the top spot in tourney #1, and the March qualifier. Her place in the year end event is assured and likely to be accompanied by a great many chips. The second game ended quickly for her when she ran in to what I can only term as Hurricane Melinda! Melinda was new to the game, but a long time friend of the Yanok's. She was nice, and we all liked her, but she definitely had Lady Luck perched on her shoulder. I've never seen someone play so many hands with absolutely nothing and come out on top. My hats off to you, I'll take luck over skill any day. (Now really... about those lottery numbers that I asked you for!) Melinda ended up finishing 2nd in that 2nd tournament, to Frank Wolfe, who admits that she almost took him down too. He was forced to abandon any semblence of a real strategy when it came down to heads up play. Thank you to Shelly for having us for the night, and Brian, sorry you were stranded at the airport in Detroit was it. See you next time.
The following night (Saturday) was NDPT #3-ish, held right here at our home. A group of 24 people showed up to play. Many of you in festive pre St. Patrick's Day warm-up mode! Chris, have your teeth and lips returned yet to their normal color? Matt and Scott L ended up chopping the pot when they got down to heads up. Congratulations! I was pleased yet again to make a final table and cash out up for the night. Thus far consistent play has netted me a small profit for the year and put me atop the NDPT Points race. But that's enough of me tootin my own horn isn't it. Then again, if you don't like go get your own damn blog! : ) Seriously though, thank you to all who showed up and made the night a great success, once again.
I'll be seeing many of you this weekend once again over at JR's house, while the ladies enjoy a "PartyLite" party, the men folk will be in the basement as usual drinking beer and playing cards. See you all soon!

Drinking BMW's
Drinking BMW's? a.k.a the Brothers-es, Murrays, and Wolfes. : )
Last night the six of us met at Applebees and made our best efforts at draining the kegs. We actually ate a little bit too, but not enough to get in the way of the alcohol. I think maybe I dropped the F-bomb a few too many times at the table...sorry dear! It was good to get together with friends and cut up a little bit.
After getting home, and getting situated, Big Red opted to hit the hay early, since she was tired. I took the opportunity to take in 30 minutes of poker on Bodog. Here fishyfishyfishy!!! Wow, I moved up to $134.45 last night! I hit two phenomenal NUT flushes, and people kept betting into me. I raked in some healthy pots, at the 5cent 10cent NLHE tables. I would have been a little higher too, had I not been forced to get involved with pocket rockets. I raised like a madman preflop, and got called. I flopped a set, but kept getting called down, finally four cards to the flush filled in and the smooth caller popped it on the river, so I waited, and typed in the chat window... "Congratulations you just cracked Aces" ... and then folded 'em. But I'd dropped $5-$6 in that pot. So I had been flirting with the $140 mark! But hey, I'll take the gain that I got. May there be many, many more.
I committed myself to go to Friday's poker game with Matt. I figure I've got $200 I can afford to take to this $1/$2 NLHE ring game. It'd be sweet to double it up...but I'm going in with the game plan to play SMART POKER. Nothing less will do. Just say no to donkin'...
No walk today...it's raining too hard, but I won't complain. I've been doing really good, and walking at lunch. From the building up to 13th Street for the past week and a half. I've got to make this commitment, and get myself healthy again. Incidentally I'm going for another "test" tomorrow, to figure out what's wrong with my innards. The pain "seems" to be gone, although I detect a tender spot in my stomach every once in a while. But nothing has shown up yet on the tests, so I guess that's a good thing, right?!
Enough about me...
