I need a NAP!

Oh yes... there will be one of these for me in the very near future. Cheer_dad is in dire need of a nap! Much to the degeneration of my liver, we were at the Eagles for "drawing night" again on Thursday. Big Red and I were joined by Laura, Nikki, and JR. Big Red and I were there longer than the rest (yeah, I know your shocked aren't you.) As usual, she was tearing up the friggin' slot machines. I think she pocketed in the neighborhood of $500 this time. She's the only person on the planet I think that has a +EV on those damn things! No matter though, it'll just be more cash for Vegas baby! All I won was a monkey (ape anyway.) I bought a $1 chance on a stuffed animal (big) and ended up winning the thing. It's holding a valentine heart, with "Wild Thang" on it. Just what I needed to make my life complete.

Finally got the wife to cash out her winnings and we headed home. I as usual fired up a Bodog table (or three) and put in about 150 hands before calling it a night. I made over $29 and this win actually helped the bankroll cross another hundred level, this time over $500. I think I finally decided to log off when I took a guy's whole stack with a 63os, when I flopped two pair. I only played it because I was a blind.

I need to point out that the Eagle's Poker Tournament will be held on February 8, 2009, not on the 1st, since that's the day of the Super Bowl, DUH!!! It didn't even cross our minds, when talking about it. The NDPT #1 game is still slated for January 23rd.

Tonight, after my nap of course, and as a "warm-up" for tomorrow night's WWE SmackDown Live in Charleston, WV; I get to take Cole and his cousin to a local wrestling show, AWA. I've been before and it's just a lot of laughs just people watching. Besides it'll be time spent with the boy.

Mere minutes away from quitting time, and although I'm ready to leave, I am NOT looking forward to walking outside. It was -3 F this morning and it didn't get much warmer either today. But I know it's a lot colder out there for some of you, so I won't complain too much. Bundle up and stay warm everybody!

I get by with a little help from my friends...

I get by with a little help from my friends...
Thanks to all of you who helped me correct my mistakes on the NDPT points standings. Frank was quick to point out my lost battle with Jack Daniels certainly played a role. To which I responded, " I have no recollection of that... you clearly have me confused with someone else." Why, the very idea of that devil's elixir even crossing these lips... honestly!

I leave for class in just a few moments, "Mid-Career Retirement Planning." I think I'm going to learn more about the "blood-bath" that I'm taking because of the C-Fund! Looks like I really need to improve my poker skills to really help out the bottom line. I'll check in later in the day, and I'll likely be lamenting my financial situation or whining about being sleepy.

Have a good day.

Monday WSOP and George Carlin's passing

Event 38 - $2,000 Pot-Limit Hold'em has crowned its winner, Davidi Kitai, who bested the field of 605 entrants. According to the reports I'm reading it was a long, hard fought battle waged before he final took down his first WSOP bracelet and the $244,546 top prize. Congratulations.

Event 39 - $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em is down to the final 9 of the original 2,720 who started the event. Day 3 will get underway today at 2:00pm PDT. Currently in the chip lead is Thom Werthmann. The action fires back up today at 2:00pm PDT.

Event 40 - $2,500 2-7 Triple Draw is down from 238 to the final 30 players. Only the top 24 get paid in this event. So, there are still 6 who will go away empty handed. Still among the hopeful are Greg Raymer, Robert Mizrachi, Bill Chen, David Sklansky, and Dario Alioto. Still to be won is the bracelet and top prize of $151,896. It will start at 2:00pm PDT as well.
Event 41 - $1,500 Mixed Hold'em is down to 98 of the intial 731 players. The top 72 will make the money, of course all are aiming for the top prize of $219,508. This one starts up at 3:00pm PDT.

Event 42 - $1,000 Seniors No-Limit Hold'em World Championship has been under way for nearly an hour now. Too much is still going on to provide you with any accurate reports at this time.

Stay tuned to the great reporting over at http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/. I'll recap as best I can.

In other news... Whitney and Teresa made it back yesterday morning from NYC. Of course they were exhausted. And yes there were purses bought as is their norm. A bit of sight seeing was done. as well. I'm glad to have them back.

Today was the first day of the Cincinnati Reds "Legends" Camp, held in Marietta, OH. Cole and I headed up this morning, to join in the action. It was a lot of fun. I think Cole learned a lot, and actually I enjoyed it and learned some things from the professionals that were helping to conduct the event. Cole picked up a souvenier ball, and grabbed a few signatures. My favorite players were Henry Winningham and Ron Oester. These two really captivated the boys and made a real impact on thiem. 2 more days of the camp remain and I think we're looking forward to it all.

Still on tap for tonight, if it doesn't rain, is All Star practice is tonight. So, I think we're both just taking it easy for a while, so we don't fall asleep later.

Finally, I wanted to make mention of the loss of George Carlin. It was reported that the comedian was taken to the hospital following complaints of chest pain. According to this article: http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/06/23/carlin.obit/index.html?eref=rss_topstories, he was 71 years old. His wit, shocking nature, and cynicism were his absolute trademarks. He will be missed.

But now, I'm starting to nod off, from having too much sun today, I'm gonna lay down and unwind for about an hour and a half.

Snoring and sleep deprivation

I may have to get some help. My snoring has gotten worse, and it persists. While I acknowledge that it's affecting my wife's ability to sleep, I don't think that she fully believes me when I say that it's having an affect on me as well. My snoring is NOT an indication of sound, restful sleep. On the contrary, it's the body trying desperately to keep oxygen coming into the body, so I don't die. If the opposite were true then I'd be quite alert throughout the day, and fell well-rested. As it is however, I feel exhausted, lethargic, and I'm playing the role of a grump to a T! When I got home from work yesterday, I immediately grabbed a pillow and laid on the floor in front of the tv and caught up on my sleep. I had to get up though, not long after that and head to baseball with Cole. It was cold, windy, I pulled a muscle in my arm, and well the whole experience just sucked last night. We returned home late, and took care of a few odds and ends and I finally got to bed at an "early for me" 10:30pm. I vaguely remember being yelled at more than a couple of times last night by my wife to roll over, or stop snoring, or some expletive or other.
I struggled out of bed at 5:45am this morning. I felt so tired that I shook a bit. I think I even cat-napped through my shower. I was at work by 6:30 still wishing for death, as it might be a soothing/calming rest. Not too long ago, Laura came to my desk to ask a question, but first had to ask me if I was awake. Much like the picture above... I was out. Coffee right in front of me. Dual monitors of my computer staring mindlessly at the spectacle. How pathetic. Was I snoring? Had I just drifted off? I don't have clue.
Here are the things that I know. I'm overweight, not enormously so, but more than enough. I had (in the past) surgery for polyps in my nasal cavity. I know that I have a deviated septum, which was diagnosed once upon a time before my 17th birthday. It's as obvious as the over sized nose on my face too. All I have to do is look in the mirror and one nostril is clearly smaller than the other. I'm busy, and I don't tend to leave things at work, I bring problems home with me. I dream about them as well. I don't feel relaxed very often. I'm sure among all these "symptoms" I've established myself as the ideal candidate for a sleep disorder of sorts. Maybe I should bite the bullet and just go to the doctor about it. Maybe I can get some help/relief. Maybe my wife can too.
I know I'm rambling on here a bit, but I'm still feeling groggy here people. Cut me just a bit of slack, okay?
