WSOP 2009 Event 51 winner, updates for 49, 52-56

Event 49 - $50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E. will enter its 5th day at 2:00pm today, having narrowed the field of 95 players down to the final table of 8. All are guaranteed a payout at this point, minimum of $162,382, while the top prize hangs high above at $1,276,802. The current chipleader by more than 1 million in chips is Erik Sagstrom, in second is Vitaly Lunkin (already a bracelet winner in this series), then David Bach, John Hanson, Huck Seed, Chau Giang, Erik Seidel, and the current shortstack Ville Wahlbeck (who also has a bracelet for the year.) This should be an exciting final table! Sadly, my boy Gus Hansen was the final table bubble, and had to settle for $123,895. Defending champion Freddy Deeb had to settle for 14th place and an $83,630 payday. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all the best.

Event 51 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em crowned its champion about 2 hours ago, when Carsten Joh finally took it down, after besting a 2,781 player field. He takes home $664,426 and WSOP gold for the effort. Congratulations.

16 of 854 players will return for Day 3 of Event 52 - $3,000 Triple Chance No Limit Hold'em today at 1:00pm. Jason DeWitt is the current chipleader.

Event 53 - $1,500 Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better will reconvene today for Day 3 at 2:00pm, where the final 14 of 467 will play it down to the bitter end. The current chipleader is Chad Brown.

After one day of play Event 54 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em narrowed its field down from 2,818 to 384. Cards get back in the air at 2:00pm. The top spot will payout $673,276 but there's still a lot of poker to be played.

78 of 257 return tomorrow for Day 2 of Event 55 - $2,500 Limit Deuce to Seven Triple Draw. $165,521 will go to the top spot, only a total of 24 spots paid.

On tap to begin today is Event 56 - $5,000 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em at high noon.

THEN... the there is a lull in official events as we all get ready for the grandaddy of 'em all THE MAIN EVENT (#57) - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold'em! Day 1A will get underway on FRIDAY at noon. By the way there is also a 1B, 1C, and 1D, so don't go getting in a big rush. Wednesday and Thursday of this week will be Satellite Days for folks to get that last minute shot at a ticket for the big show on Friday. As well the 1-day event "Ante Up For Africa Charity Event."

The Main Event will continue on through July 15th, until they reach the FINAL 9 players. At which time they'll bag and tag all the chips and we all play the waiting game until November 7th, when the "November Nine" will return to play for all the marbles and try to claim their piece of WSOP history.
