This should be an exciting final table! Sadly, my boy Gus Hansen was the final table bubble, and had to settle for $123,895. Defending champion Freddy Deeb had to settle for 14th place and an $83,630 payday. Stay tuned to PokerNews.com for all the best.

On tap to begin today is Event 56 - $5,000 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em at high noon.

THEN... the there is a lull in official events as we all get ready for the grandaddy of 'em all THE MAIN EVENT (#57) - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Hold'em! Day 1A will get underway on FRIDAY at noon. By the way there is also a 1B, 1C, and 1D, so don't go getting in a big rush. Wednesday and Thursday of this week will be Satellite Days for folks to get that last minute shot at a ticket for the big show on Friday. As well the 1-day event "Ante Up For Africa Charity Event."

The Main Event will continue on through July 15th, until they reach the FINAL 9 players. We are home, and she is in bed now sleeping and allowing the anesthetic to wear off. She is sore but feeling okay. I'm relieved that she is home again, safe and sound. Love ya babe...

And finally just minutes ago Event 47 - $2,500 Mixed Hold'em got underway. The defending champion in this event is Erick 'E-Dog" Lindgren.

That's all I can offer up as a recap gang. I'm exhausted after the last day of the Reds' Legends Baseball Camp. Cole and I had a fantastic time all three days. I think I really need to ice down my throwing arm... man it sucks to get old. But the pain was worth the memories of time spent together. But getting pointers on pitching technique from the mound by Don Gullett http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Gullett Reds '70-'76 Yankees '77-'78; and then later getting batting tips from George Foster http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Foster_(baseball) Giants '69-'71, Reds '71-81, Mets '82-'86, and White Sox '86... these are truly remarkable experiences to be cherished.

But for now... I'm spent and going to lounge a bit then perhaps hit the pool.

WSOP 2009 winners events 39 & 40, updates 41-46

I know I'm late in getting out a post to the blogladytes... but I have been occupied with my son. He and I have been attending the Cincinnati Reds' Legends Baseball Camp in Marietta, OH. Today was day 2, which I hadn't planned on going to, but WAS going to work, but last night Teresa's mother fell and sprained both legs, so dear old dad got the boy to camp and stayed to help out like yesterday. I know who am I kidding that it was a bad thing! Great hanging out with Cole, and I really enjoy the camp, and hanging out with some of the baseball greats!

Anyway, here's the WSOP update... I'll post up some pix of the Reds Legends Camp in another post.

Event 39 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em has came to a close early this morning, when Ray Foley emerged as the last man standing of the 2,714 players who began the event. He takes home the WSOP bracelet and a cool $650,000. Congratulations.

Day 2 of Event 43 - $1,000 Seniors World Championship has gotten underway, adn finds us currently at 299 players remaining of the 2,707 who began the event. Far too many names and far too much poker left to even speculate.

Day 2 of Event 44 - $2,500 Seven Card Razz and we've still got 102 players of 315 who started the battle. Only the top 32 get paid in this one, with $188,370 going to the eventual winner.

Event 45 - $10,000 World Championship Pot Limit Hold'em got underway today at noon. The field is littered with professionals that you'll recognize, with this pricetag, but still no official report of the total number of entrants. It would appear to be around 200+.

One last event today at 5:00pm PST to whet the appetite, Event 46 - $2,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better. Still lotsa poker going on in Vegas folks, and I wish I were there, and with bankrolled properly to fulfill some dreams. So, I continue to live vicariously through the lives of others... the poker writers and bloggers as well as the players themselves. Thanks again for all the great coverage from PokerNews.com

WSOP 2009 event 32 & 33 winners, updates for 34-37

Event 32 - $2,000 No Limit Hold'em has come to a close, and the last man standing of the 1,534 players who began the journey, we have now only Angel Guillen. He claims his first ever WSOP bracelet and $530,548. Congratulations. This year's series seems to be all about "double-takes" or at least good things coming in two's. Brock Parker and Phil Ivey going for 2 bracelets. And in this case Guillen finished 2nd to Keven Stammen in Event #13 just a few days ago. Whatever it is... I'm for it. The WSOP has been exciting even from my vantage point, on the other side of the country...

Event 33 - $10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em brings us a winner you'll recognize... Greg 'FBT' Mueller. He bested a tough field of 185 players to bring home WSOP gold and $460,836 for the effort. Congratulations to him. Some other notable cashes in the event include Daniel Alaei, Maria Ho, Jennifer Harman, Todd Brunson, and Howard Lederer.

21 of the starting 2,095 players remain in Event 34 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em. The players will return at 1:00pm today to finish things off. Some of the notable names still in the field include Roland "hungry like" De Wolfe, Bertrand Grospellier, and Young Phan.

In Event 35 - $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha, 64 players remain of the 363 who started things off. Only the top 36 will see a payday. A few notable names remain in this field, including Sorel Mizzi, Jeffrey Lisandro, and David 'Devilfish' Ulliott. I could name more, but all of these are within the top 10 chipstack vicinity.

Event 36 - $2,000 No Limit Hold'em and Event 37 - $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better will get underway today at noon and 5:00pm PST respectively.

Thanks to the PokerNews.com team for all the long hours and excellent reporting!

WSOP 2009 event winners 29-31, updates 32-35

Event 29 - $10,000 World Championship Heads Up No Limit Hold'em has finally come to a close and rising out of the 256 entrants to claim this heads up title is Leo Wolpert. He battled his way through 7 heads up matches which included Dustin "Neverwin" Woolf, David Pham and finally John Duthie. He takes home the WSOP bracelet and a heavy wallet, with an additional $625,682 in it. Congratulations!

Event 30 - $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha which drew 436 entrants has crowned its champion as well, and we find J.C. Tran coming out on top to claim the WSOP bracelet and $235,685. This marks Tran's second WSOP bracelet. A few other names caught my eye, as having cashed in the event including Theo Jorgensen, John Juanda, David Chiu, and near the bottom of the payouts Phil Ivey. I'll remark here also that this is the event that Phil Ivey was "running-over-to" during his breaks whilst he was still playing in (and ultimately winning) Event #25! One step further, he finished 44th out of 45 paid spots in Event 30. Recall that bwop finished 39th out of 40 paid spots in Event 25. So, I guess what I'm sayin' is maybe she should been in this event too! Perhaps a role reversal was destined for you here!!! : P Sorry I couldn't resist! BUT back on track now, Congratulations to J.C. Tran!

About three and a half hours ago, Event 31 - $1,500 H.O.R.S.E. also came to a close, and we find James Van Alstyne coming out on top of the 770 player pack. He takes home the WSOP bracelet and $247,033 for the tremendous effort. Van Alstyne appears to be having a good series. Just a few days earlier in Event #21 he was heads up in the $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament. He came up in 2nd place to Zac Fellows in that one, but still pocketed a cool $192,866. Just once, I need a couple of days like that! Congratulations!!!

A little over an hour ago... (ugh) the weary/bleary eyed players in Event 32 - $2,000 No Limit Hold'em, called it a day, having whittled the starting 1,534 players down to the final 19 players. The current chipleader is Mika Paasonen. They can all rest easy at this point, that they're all going to get paid, but that top spot looks mighty juicy at $530,548. They'll need to get some sleep and eat those Wheaties before returning at 1:00pm to get started again!

12 of 185 players remain in Event 33 - $10,000 World Championship Limit Hold'em. Your current chip leader is Kenny Hsiung, but some others including the likes of Maria HO, Greg 'FBT' Mueller, Daniel Alaei, and Jennifer Harman may have something to say before it's all over. Top prize of $460,836 and WSOP gold awaits.

Day 1 of Event 34 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em reduced the 2,095 player field down to 243 before calling it a night. Only the top 216 spots will get paid in this one.

Scheduled to get underway today is Event 35 - $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha. Stay tuned to the PokerNews.com coverage.

I hope some of you are finding my greatly reduced recaps useful or at least not bothersome. I know a lot of you are unable to access many of the poker reporting sites during work hours, but I know a lot of you do check the blog from time-to-time. The credit and the real effort goes all to the PokerNews.com reporting crew. My quick rehash is just my observations based on what they have to say... and are the things that I find intriguing. Thanks for sharing in the experience with me!

WSOP 2009 Event 22, my oversight...

Oops, I realized I forgot to mention Jeffrey Carris, as the winner of Event 22 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout. That result came in after Event 23 ended with Nick Schulman winning. Sorry Mr. Carris, I didn't mean to detract from the win. He picked up $313,673 for the effort and the WSOP bracelet. Congratulations to him!

I better pay a bit more attention, skip washing the car and truck, and other elements of the honey-do list during the World Series of Poker if I'm going to keep up. Maybe to do it right, I'll just have to help cover the whole thing next year, and just take the 7 weeks off!!! : )

WSOP 2009 Updates for Events 24-28

Day 2 of Event 24 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em has come to a close with 19 of the original starting 2,506 players remaining in the hunt for WSOP gold and the top prize of $607,256. Sorry, a quick glance of the names of those remaining... and none jump off the page at me. No offense, I'm sure you're all stand up guys, I'm just sayin'...

I mentioned Event 25 - $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better, earlier to let you know that bwop finished in the money! Congrats again! But now I'll go on to say that there remain only 14 of the starting 376 players. There could still be a LOT of time left on this tournament clock. A $220,538 top prize awaits the victor.

In Event 26 - $1,500 Limit Hold'em there are still 124 players (643 started) all vying for the top spot of $197,488. The top 63 will get paid in this event. Some of the easily recognizable names still in the running are: Bill Chen, Justin Bonomo, Paul Darden, Bryan Devonshire, Barry Greenstein, Zelong Dong, and Shannen Elizabeth.

Event 27 - $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better will return today for Day 2. 59 players remain of the 198 who started. Another quick looksee of the names reveals, Daniel Negreanu, Alex Kravchenko, Mike Matusow, Scott Clements, Eli Elezra, Roland De Wolfe, Jeff Lisandro, Barry Shulman, Andy Bloch, Mike Sexton, Jason Mercier, Amnon Filippi, and Phil Ivey.

WSOP 2009 Nick Schulman wins Event 23

We've come to the end of the line in Event 23 - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw, and our winner is Nick Schulman who takes the WSOP bracelet and $279,742. Congratulations! But let's not discount the effort here. Schulman spent quite some time battling back and forth with Ville Wahlbeck who as you will recall already has one bracelet to his name so far in the series this year! He too is to be congratulated, and he doesn't go away empty handed, with an extra $172,864 in his pocket for 2nd place.

The win for Nick Schulman marks his 1st WSOP bracelet!

I'm still continuing to hit my refresh button in my browser to watch the goings-on in Event 25 - $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better. One because Phil Ivey is still looking really strong in the event, but more importantly bwop is still hanging in there!!! C'mon now... you can do it!

WSOP 2009 events 20 & 21 winners, updates 22-27

The winner of Event 20 - $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em, is John-Paul Kelly. He is the last man standing of the 633 who began the event. He takes home $194,434 and the WSOP bracelet. Congratulations to him. There were hopes of Erik Seidel adding to his bracelet collection in this event, when he made the final table, but he had to settle for 7th place.

Event 21 - $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. has come to an end and we find Zac Fellows at the top of the heap of the 452 players who began the 3 day event. He takes home $311,899. Congratulations! I had mentioned earlier that a few notable pros remained, but the closest to the end was Gavin Smith who tapped out in 10th place.

In Event 22 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout only 10 players remain to finish things out today. It took around 11 hours to play down from the 100 players which began Day 2 (1,000 started us off on day one. Top prize of $313,673 and the WSOP bracelet awaits one of them.

Event 23 - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw has ended day 2 and will return for the finale today. 10 players remain, currently Vince Musso is in the chip lead. Some notable names include, Nick Schulman, David Benyamine, Michael Biner, Ville Wahlbeck (again), Roland De Wolfe and John Juanda.

Day 1 of Event 24 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em came to a close with 270 players remaining of the 2,506 who started off. All of those remaining will get paid! I guess that might help some of them get some sleep. : )

Event 25 - $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better started Day 1 off with 376 players and we are down to 155 that will begin Day 2. HEY NOW!!! Wait there a minute folks but do my eyes deceive me? Is that none other than the bwop the Black Widow of Poker herself still sitting strong in this event? SWEET! Give 'em hell!!!

Two events will get started today, Event 26 - $1,500 Limit Hold'em and Event 27 - $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better. There still lots more action to come, hope you're all enjoying the events as they unfold. Let the folks over at PokerNews.com know you appreciate the job they're doing!

WSOP 2009 Event 19 winner, and updates for 20-25

Brock Parker is definitely making his mark on the WSOP 2009! I mentioned in an earlier post that Parker won Event #14 and laid claim to the WSOP bracelet; and now 4 days later, he lays claim to his 2nd WSOP bracelet, after besting the field of 1,068 players in Event 19 - $2,500 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em. Outstanding! Congratulations!

Down to the final 9 of the original starting 633, Event 20 - $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em will reconvene today where players will vie for the top spot of $194,434. Among those at the final table, a name you might recall is Erik Seidel, who is currently 3rd in chipstacks.

Event 21 - $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. wrapped up Day 2 a little over an hour ago... There are 21 of 452 players remaining. Among these players a few you may recognize are Ylon Schwartz, Chau Giang, and Gavin Smith.

Event 22 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout played down from the starting 1,000 players to 100. Recall that in Shootouts, tables do NOT get balanced as players bust out. Each table is played to the last man standing (err sitting) and then these winners of their respective tables are brought together again to full tables and then play down to an ultimate winner. Everyone who remains will get paid... but only one will lay claim to the $ 313,673 top spot and that little piece of WSOP jewelry.

Event 23 - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw saw only 96 players come out to play, and with Day 1 completed, only 60 players remain. Currently Roland de Wolfe is our chip leader, with John Juanda in 2nd. There is still a laundry list of recognizable pros in this event, too many to mention. But this one could have some star power, despite the lower numbers.

Scheduled to get under way today are two events, Event 24 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em will get started at noon PST, and Event 25 - $2,500 Omaha/Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo 8-or-better at 5:oopm PST.

I hope you are all enjoying the series as much as I am. And as always big thanks to the entire PokerNews.com crew for making it possible for us all to get a glimpse into the WSOP 2009!

The winner of Event 17 - $1,000 Ladies World Championship is Lisa Hamilton, who bested the field of 1,060 players to capture the WSOP bracelet and the top prize of $195,390. According to reports from PokerNews.com this was Hamilton's first live tournament! Others of interest to me (yes to me, it's my blog... get your own) who cashed in the event include Scott Clements, Daniel Negreanu, Greg Jamison (hey bwop your friend got paid) Annie Duke, Ville Wahlbeck, and Alex Kravchenko. Congratulations however to Daniel Alaei.

Day 2 of Event 19 - $2,500 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em came to a close with 11 players remaining of the 1,068 who started. Currently Joe Serock is in the chip lead, but close on his heels is Brock Parker who has already laid claim to one WSOP bracelet in this years series, namely in Event 14 the $2,500 6-handed limit hold'em event.

Day 1 of Event 20 - $1,500 Pot Limit Hold'em has come to a close and the 633 player field has been reduced to 62 players. Everyone left, will get paid, including some of these recognizable names according to PokerNews.com: "Mark Seif, Joe Sebok, Roland de Wolfe, Mike Sexton and Kathy Liebert."

198 players will return today of the 452 who started Event 21 - $3,000 H.O.R.S.E. Among the group of healthy chip stacks are: Gavin SMith, Barry Greenstein, and John Juanda.

On tap to begin today are Event 22 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Shootout at Noon, and Event 23 - $10,000 World Championship No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw scheduled for 5:00 PST.

Congratulations to all the winners thus far in the WSOP, and thanks to the excellent coverage being provided by the staff at PokerNews.com

Danny Gans update

An article has been posted http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20284170,00.html?xid=rss-topheadlines which provides details regarding the cause of death of Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans. On May 1st Gans was found dead at the age of 52. He was said to have died in his sleep. In the article above, the coroner's report says that Gans died of a "toxic reaction to medication..." The entertainer had been taking the prescription drug hydromorphone, commonly known as Dilaudid for chronic back pain. The coroner does go on to say that Gans' death was not a case of drug abuse.

Danny Gans was a prominent headliner/entertainer in Las Vegas and was easily one of the most recognized faces on the Vegas strip, as he was shown on numerous marquees and billboards. He will be missed...

I'm done...

I won't be turning the other cheek. Don't ask... Maybe it's not personal, but I'm taking it that way. Did they mean it this way, maybe not, but they're still all a bunch of mutherless fucks. Let me be very clear, I'm done. You've insulted my son, and indirectly some other very good players on my team and for that matter, me too. I will not be taking on the Coaching Spot of the "B" All Stars Baseball Team for Tri-C, which they will very likely be asking me to do tonight. My son will not be playing on the "B" All Stars, or for that matter at this point (if it were offered) on the "A" All Stars either. We are both through. Furthermore, we will not be back to Tri C Baseball next year. I'll find somewhere else for my son to play next year, or he won't play at all. Also, the organization can not only kiss my ass, but can very likely kiss goodbye, two of their team sponsors for next year, since for 6 years now, I have secured first one sponsor and now two for Tri-C Baseball, because I fully supported youth baseball. Now, I will do whatever I can to block these sponsorships from happening again in the future. People it takes a while to light this fuse... but congratulations you did it, and this fire won't soon cool. So, in summation, if you've not got the point: Fuck 'em, I'm done. Don't ask me for anything more, and expect even less.

And in Event 14 - $2,500 Six-handed Limit Hold'em, the winner is Brock Parker who takes home his first WSOP bracelet and $223,688 top prize. In doing so, he took on "heads up" one of the best in the poker business, Daniel Negreanu! While I'm sad to see that Daniel came up short, I don't want to sell Parker's victory short. This was an amazing win and he is to be congratulated.

Event 15 - $5,000 No Limit Hold'em completed its Day 2 and returns today when the final 17 of 655 players will battle it out for the win. Currently Isaac Baron is seated with the largest chip stack, in a close 2nd is David Pham.

After 2 days of play in Event 16 - $1,500 Seven Card Stud, we are down to the final 8 of 359 players. Currently Jeff Lisandro is in the top spot, but a quick look at the remaining players reveals some tough customers and other stacks to contend with, including currently in 3rd John Juanda.

146 of the starting 1,060 ladies remain in Event 17 - $1,000 Ladies World Championship. Currently in the chip lead, is Tamara Tibbles. Some of the recognizable names still in the running include: Svetlana Gromenkova, JJ Liu, Susie Isaacs, Maria Ho, Erica Schoenberb, and Karina Jett.

And in Event 12 - $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event, our winner is Ville Wahlbeck, who bested a total field of 194 players. The feat wins him the bracelet and $492,375! Day 3 of Event 13 - $2,500 No Limit Hold'em will get back underway today at 2:00pm PST, with 20 players remaining of the starting 1,088.

The final 11 of 367 players will return in Event 14 - $2,500 Six-handed Limit Hold'em, at 2:00pm PST today as well. Tommi Horkko is currently in the chip lead with 509,000 but not far behind in 2nd is none other than Daniel Negreanu.

Another 2:00pm PST start time is in store for Day 2 of Event 15 - $5,000 No Limit Hold'em. 164 players return of the initial starting 655 who started the event.

Event 16 - $1,500 Seven Card Stud 97 of 359 players remain in this one, for the Day 2 to get under way.

1,051 ladies showed up today for the start of Event 17 - $1,000 Ladies World Championship. I'll bet this one gets a little closer coverage by the PokerNews.com reporters and other crews as well! I'm betting more photo ops too!

One other event will get underway today at 5:00pm PST, which is Event 18 - $10,000 World Championship Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-better. This is one of my favorite events, because the game really intrigues me. I always like playing it online... but can see it taking a lot of thought and insight to play well live.

In some "local" news. Last night 35 players converged on the Eagles Aerie last night for a night of NLHE. When the dust settled, none other then my lovely and talented wife, Big Red, was the last man (errrr woman) standing. Congratulations baby! Sadly for me the night came to an end at the final table in the 7th position... no moneys. :( But a great night of poker, and we had a lot of new players and the word seems to be getting out about our "little" game. Y'all come back now...

Event 7 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em has a winner, Travis Johnson. He bested the field of 2,791 players and took home $666,853, the bracelet and the bragging rights. Congratulations on the victory.

In Event 8 - $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw however we have familiar face kids... Phil Ivey took down the win in this event against a total of 147 entrants. This marks Phil's 6th WSOP bracelet. He takes that and the top prize of $96,361 away with this victory. According to reports he had some side action, prop bets going on as well. Go figure...

Event 9 - $1,500 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em will return for Day 3 today, with only 8 of the original 1,459 remaining. Currently in the chip lead is Charles Furey.

Event 10 - $2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha will resume today as well, having only 18 of the original 453 starters remaining. The only name I quickly recognize in the running is Hevad Khan, but he is on a dangerously low chip stack.

Day 1 of Event 11 - $2,000 No Limit Hold'em will resume today as well, with 252 players remaining of the starting 1,646. You'll just have to stay tuned on this one.

Event 12 - $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event will resume today at 2:00pm PST. 128 or 194 players remain... and lookee there, why currently the chip leader is Kid Poker Daniel Negreanu. There are FAR TOO MANY big names still in this thing for me to even list. Go look at http://www.pokernews.com/wsop/2009/event-12/chip-counts/day1/ to see where they currently stand!

Event 13 - $2,500 No Limit Hold'em and Event 14 - $2,500 Six-handed Limit Hold'em will join the mix today, and add to the overall joyous pandamonium that is the WSOP!

Have a great day everyone... and in case any of you have forgotten, there's a REAL poker tournament happening tonight! : ) The crew is converging on the Eagles Aerie tonight, for the $25 tournament. Registration begins at 6:00pm EST, game time 7:00pm sharp (-ish)... Hope to see you all there. Bring your wallets!

WSOP 2009 Event #6 winner, updates for 7-10

Event 6 - $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud has a winner! Freddie Ellis just over an hour ago became the champion besting a field of 142 players. He takes home the WSOP bracelet and $373,744 for his trouble! Congratulations...

Event 7 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em Day 2 came to a close with 33 players remaining of those 2,791 who started the event. Action will get under way in this one again today at 1:00pm. The top spot in this event will payout $666,853.

Event 8 - $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw, Day 2 has completed, and only 7 of the starting 147 players remain. Most notably in this field (at least to me anyway) is Phil Ivey, who is currently sitting in 6th place in chip counts. 1st place pays out $96,361.

Event 9 - $1,500 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em has completed Day 1, 1,459 players begin this ride... and reports from the PokerNews.com team hint that about 1,300 have already been eliminated. Top prize is $428,259... A total of 144 spots payout.

Event 10 - $2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha, ended its Day 1 in favor of some sleep as well, finally about an hour ago. Approximately 104 of the starting 453 players remain in this competition. 45 spots payout, and the top spot is worth $244,862.

Event 11 - $2,000 No Limit Hold'em and Event 12 - $10,000 World Championship Mixed Event will get under way today. Thanks again to the PokerNews.com Live Reporting staff!

WSOP 2009 Events 4-10 updates and me bein' me

As of NOW... Event 4 - $1,000 No Limit Hold'em | Day 4 is down to 3 of the intial 6,012 players, with Steve Sung WAY out in front in chips and seemingly NO ONE wanting to get involved. But I'm a firm believer in a DonkFest! Let's just say it "stimulates" me... Thank you for your indulgence in the use and abuse of "quotation marks" and "periods..." If you weren't indulging... BITE ME. Oh wait... "ALL CAPS TOO..." : ) Wish I knew some of these guys, and were hangin' in Vegas to frolic in the after party. BWOP... me and Uncle June would drag u in to the idiocy that would surely ensue. Ah, but I digress. Who, am I kiddin' though you'd fleece us both.

In Event 5 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha | Day 3, Jason Mercier has finally taken down the WIN and the bracelet! 22-years-old with a bracelet, and according to "change100" 2 EPT trophies too... he can't wear his hat straight! I kidding, I kidding, why u not know joke. Seriously, it is a young poker world. Mr. Mercier, takes home $237,415 for his efforts and the shiny WSOP bracelet. Congratulations.

Okay, in a grandaddy type event... Event 6 - $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud | Day 3 (defined as $10K-ish+) there remain a mere 5 of the intial 142 players. Sadly, Misters Mueller, Phan, Lisandro, and Negreanu fell... and in that order. Currently, Freddie Ellis is on top... stay tuned, glory, some jewelry and $373,744 remains to be claimed.

Man... I'm such a sarcastic bastard when I've been drinking.

In Event 7 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em | Day 2 there are still 163 of the initial 2,791 players remaining. Just too many to get too excited over, although top prize of $666,853 is nothing to sneeze at. Still looks to be Victor Greeley in the chip lead.

In Event 8 - $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw... I'm at least happy to see that some of my favorite folks (that I've never met) cashed... E-Dog, Greenstein, and the lovely Vanessa Rousso, all got $4,094 to parlay into the next poker event at least. But dammit guys it was Vanessa... honestly, how could u?!? (ahhh and no love for phil HELLmouth.) Like I said, drinking... and LOVIN' it!

Event 9 - $1,500 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em | Day 1, theoretically has 318 of the 1,459 remaining in the hunt for the WSOP bracelet. Among them, remain Joe Sebok, Dario Minieri, Mike Caro, and Carlos Mortensen for me to watch for at the very least. Still a LONG way off to getting paid.

Looks like "SHAMUS" has a long-ish night ahead in Event 10 - $2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha | Day 1. As always though, I look forward to a bit o' the irish reportin' of the action! Thanks for the great job that we know you'll do, Shamus!!!

Time to call it quits... at least for me, here on the East Coast-ish. Thanks to all the PokerNews.com reporters!

It promises to be a great time as always... maybe even better since THIS time, Big Red and I will be able to make it, as we don't have a baseball conflict! Uncle June (a.k.a el presidente) wanted to make sure to get the word out that there will be cards in the AIR at the AERIE! So, come on down... and get there early, have dinner and a beverage or twelve... : )

WSOP 2009 Events 4-8 continue, 9, 10 to start today

Day 3 of Event #4 - $1,000 No Limit Hold'em, has completed and the original starting 6,012 have been reduced to the final 9. According to reports players dropped more quickly than expected and the day came to an end a bit earlier, but it was still deemed that playing on to a winner would take far too long. So when things resume today, we will finally have our winner. The gulf between 9th place and 1st place is $114,168 vs $771,106+ a lil bit o bling.

Day 2 of Event #5 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha came to an end as well, and we are down to the final 9 out of the original starting 809 players. The difference between 9th and 1st here is $15,593 vs $237,415+ the WSOP bracelet.

Day 2 of Event #6 - $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud played on for around 13 hours yesterday! Play was finally ended when they reached the final 11 players. A quick view of those remaining, reveals Eric Drache currently in the chip lead with 785,000. Others among the crowd which catch my eye anyway are Hasan Habib, Jeff Lisandro, Max Pescatori, Greg 'FBT Mueller, and Daniel Negreanu (who is currently in 9th place with 191,000 in chips. There's still liable to be some fight left in this event, with a payout of $29,152 for 11th place, vs $373,744 for 1st.

Day 1 of Event #7 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em concluded with 338 players remaining of the starting 2,791. The top 297 players will get paid in this event, with a top prize of $666,853 awaiting the victor. As luck would have it the current chip leader is "Victor" Greeley. : )

Day 1 of Event #8 - $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw came to a close just a couple of hours ago. 35 of the starting 147 players remain. Only the top 21 will see a payday on this one. Some notable players remaining include (by last name recognition only) Ivey, Lindgren, Deeb, Juanda, Seidel, Greenstein, Flack, Danzer and Hellmuth. Top prize in the event will payout $96,361... and the bracelet of course.

Event #9 $1,500 Six-handed No Limit Hold'em will get underway today at Noon PST, and Event #10 $2,500 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha will start at 5:00pm PST.

Again, thanks to all the fantastic reporting by the PokerNews.com staff. You folks are doing a great job. I for one greatly appreciate being able to live vicariously through your words. Thank you!!!

WSOP Event updates 4-6, today's starts 7-8

Event 4 - $1,000 No Limit Hold'em concluded its Day 2 a couple of hours ago, and will get back under way at 1:00pm PST today. The initial 6,012 player field has been "chipped" away to a mere 50 players now. They will play today, until only one remains. This event started paying out at 622 players! Still, there is quite a gulf between the 50th spot payout of $12,391... and the $771,106 for first, and that little piece of jewelry. Stay tuned to all the action as it unfolds from the fine folk and folkette at http://www.pokernews.com/live-reporting/.

Event 5 - $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha also came to a close when the 809 entrants had been reduced down to 81 players... all of whom are now, in the money! Still the difference of $2,761 for 81st... and $237,415 for 1st with the bling... The current chip leader is Jason Mercier. But then again, chip counts now are irrelevant, it's that one at the end that counts.

Event 6 - $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud kicked off yesterday, with 142 players in all. After 1 day of play 102 remain. I started through the list of remaining players, but that got a little silly, when I quickly recognized like 3/4's of the top 20. There's still lots of poker to play. Some notable casualties of the Day One action included Tony G, Greg Raymer, Barry Greenstein, Howard Lederer, Jen Harman, and Annie Duke.

Event 7 - $1,500 No Limit Hold'em AND Event 8 - $2,500 No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw will both get under way today.

Once again, thanks to all the reporting being done by the PokerNews Crew!

Back here on the homefront... it was baseball last night, and baseball again tonight. Tough loss in Vienna last night, which found us tied or within a run through the whole game, until the bottom of the 6th inning, when they made it from 3rd base following a wild pitch. I continue to struggle with keeping the boys and my assistant coach at bay about moving younger, lesser skilled players to key infield positions, when they do not perform or pay attention anywhere on the field. This isn't Tee-Ball for one. I can't justify rewarding a lack of effort. But with the season now nearing its close... I'll admit, I'm tempted to just turn over the reigns to the assistant coach tonight and just let him run it as he sees fit. Perhaps it will make a lasting impression when they begin to witness the ball flying in all directions with bad throws and missed catches. I just don't think I can bring myself to do it... I don't know that I can bear the carnage.

WSOP Event #2 and Event #3, winners

Event #2 the $40,000 buyin, 40th Annual NLHE event, now has a winner, Vitaly Lunkin. He bested a field of 201 players to take down the whopping 1st prize of $ 1,891,012, and the coveted WSOP bracelet. This is his 2nd WSOP bracelet. Congratulations Vitaly Lunkin! Isaac Haxton and Greg Raymer finished 2nd and 3rd respectively. Play came to an end around 4 hours ago.

Event #3, the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo 8-or-betterhas also come to a close as well with "defending champion" Thang Luu coming out on top, winning the $263,135 and the WSOP bracelet. This is his 2nd bracelet... in the SAME event... in CONSECUTIVE years! Fantastic accomplishment besting the field of 918 players, congratulations Thang Luu! A quick looksee of the payouts in this event, shows only a couple of standout names in the top 20, namely Freddy Deeb in 10th and Eli Elezra in the 20 spot.

Event 4 - $1,000 No Limit Hold'em finished up Day 1b and the action will get back under way today. Approximately 3,000 players showed up on Day 1a and were whittled down to 376. Day 1b boasted 6,012 players starting and they whittled that grouping down to around 400 players. All those who remain will return to the Amazon Room today, to continue to thin the herd.

Event #5 $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha and Event #6 $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud will get under way today, at noon and 5:00pm PST respectively.

Once again, thanks for all the continued coverage by the PokerNews.com reporting team! Thanks for continuing to FEED the addiction!
